Palangka Raya University Distributes Rice Assistance for Students

PALANGKA RAYA – Concerned with the situation due to the impact of the corona virus disease (covid-19) pandemic especially on campus, the University of Palangka Raya (UPR) distributed rice assistance to a number of students and Contract Workers who were coordinated by the Christmas Celebration Committee 2019, Easter 2020, Perkriso and Darma Wanita UPR.

This symbolic distribution of rice was attended by UPR Rector Dr. Andrie Elia SE MSi, Dean of the Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) Prof. Dr. Joni Bungai MPd, Chairperson of UPR Darma Wanita Ny Riap Susilawati, and a number of other UPR officials.

In his direction, Andrie Elia said, the distribution of rice and several other needs was purely an initiative of UPR officials, who were concerned about the conditions resulting from the covid-19 pandemic, and indeed there was no budgeting from the university.

“Later this will not only be given assistance, because a special team will be formed again. But we hope, hopefully the covid-19 outbreak will quickly pass and our lives will return to normal,” he said.

For students whose parents have economic abilities, the Chancellor asks that they work together to help students who are struggling economically. There must be no fellow students who are malnourished because of lack of food during this covid-19 pandemic.

“I also ask students not to go home again. Love your parents and family in the village. Because you could have been exposed to a virus while on the way, then brought to the family in the village. To communicate, now it’s easy, can be via mobile phones,” added Andrie Elia at the event which was also attended by dozens of UPR students and contract workers.

UPR students are also asked to show their responsibility and integrity as educated circles helping others regardless of ethnicity or religion. Because in God’s eyes, all beings are the same, and we must be united.

“Now, our task is still not finished, we will see the progress later. Of course we really hope, that God will give us health, strength, protection and long life, and the covid-19 epidemic is no longer spreading,” the UPR Rector said.

Previously, the Chairperson of the Aid Distribution Committee, Stevanus Alexander reported, this activity was carried out as an expression of concern with the current conditions that hit many residents, which were increasingly difficult, economic slowdown and others. This condition also befell some students and UPR contract workers. So they need to get help to ease the burden on the economic side.

“Therefore, we agreed to do the distribution of love in the form of 5 kilograms of rice as much as 600 sacks. Then, we got an addition from the Chair of Darma Wanita and the Chancellor of UPR,” said Stevanus. (red)
